Who We Are

Sarasota County Commission
Incorporated in 1921, Sarasota County adopted a Home Rule Charter in 1971. It is one of only 20 charter counties in the state of Florida. The charter established a commission form of government with county commissioners as the county’s governing body. Five county commissioners are each elected for up to two four-year terms by the voters in their districts. These commissioners set policy through the adoption of resolutions and ordinances.
